It’s not that far to go until the World Champs in Roto-Vegas and some of the NZ Santa Cruz team are preparing to head overseas to increase the world rankings. Annika Smail (currently ranked 4th equal in the world) is already off to do some Swiss Cup, Norba and World cup racing.
Amanda Davies will be heading off to do the Belgium and Fort Williams World Cup rounds.
Jenna Magill is off to Europe and has a hectic schedule of 9 weeks of racing. Lauran Campbell is off to Canada and USA, with a full on schedule too. Good luck girls and kick some arse, lets hope those selectors notice your efforts.
I hope all of you managed to get some quality riding in over the Easter break. Sandra and I decided to see more of the south island via the west coast and visit Trish Wrigley and Cullum Smith in their new location of Wanaka. First stop, Punikaiki rocks, along the best driving roads in the world. Not that ol’ Val noticed. Those rocks, rock, a must see. Then a stop over in Hokitika to catch up with Cathy Hamer, Mark Dawson and family. And of course a ride on the “old nationals track”. Off to Fox Glacier, I can assure you global warming has not affected the temperature at Fox. Then onwards to Wanaka, we arrived on the final day of the War Birds show, which meant we got see some old planes close up. Very cool. Our stay in Wanaka was action packed with helicopter rides, Skippers canyon shuttle runs, heli-biking down Mt. Pisa, wine tasting, and more riding in the Sticky forest, Alexandra and Queenstown. Big thanks to our great hosts Trish and Cullum. Can’t wait to get back. We headed back to Nelson via Christchurch so we could get a quick ride on the Port Hills, a big thumbs up to the Captain Thomas track.
Steve Peat is now part of the Syndicate Team; he will join the line up of Nathan Rennie, Kurt Voreis, John Waddell and Jamie Goldman. The Syndicate made a BIG presence at Sea Otter with their new Syndicate painted Santa Cruz bikes, a Syndicate Van and Syndicate umbrella girls to keep the team dry. I hope to see them all in Roto-Vegas for the World Champs. Rumour is that Rob Roskopp will be here for the World Champs too.
I’m making a quick visit to Aireal Ozzie to check out their new products and free coffee. Watch this space for an update.
Love Nomads Bad?
OK, this is a real email to Santa Cruz from a very passionate Nomad owner from Canada.
Dear Santa Cruz,I just wanted to write and thank you for your wonderful bike. I recently purchased a Nomad up here in Canada and whoa nelly. She is one sweet ride. Is there anything she can't do? This little bike has opened my eyes to a whole new world of riding. I think my old hardtail has some serious full suspension envy. The only complaint I have is that my wife and kids will probably make me go to some kind of therapy as this bike might ruin my family. Thanks again. This bike is sweet nectar.

Even though it’s “off season” seems like there is still a lot of racing to be done. Hanmer 12 hour, was comfortably won by the Ground Effect/Santa Cruz team, up two laps on their competition. Their closest competition was a very fast Burger Wisconsin, 4 man Vet team…which I was riding for. Mt. Peel marathon, was cut short because of snow, Andy Reid finished 3rd (with a flat tyre) and Jason hill shortly afterwards. Andrew East took out the 60km Hunua Hardman and Amanda Davies got 3rd in the 80km course.
Talk to you all soon
Thanks again for your support Mike and Sandra.
