T-Rex and 2007 Superlight

The first 2007 Superlight has touched down on New Zealand soil and as we speak (as I type?), Tim Wilding is rushing to assemble it and race it in Rotorua, the 3rd round of the NZ National mtb series.

As you can see that the white Superlight looks very pretty against the yellow and orange flowers, what ever they maybe.

2007 National Champs

Two Santa Cruz Riders bring 2007 National Championship Jersey's home and Santa Cruz riders hog podiums.

Anja McDonald wins 2007 New Zealand National Cross Country Champs. This is Anja's first full season in the Pro-Elite field and her first year riding for the Santa Cruz team (with lots of support from R&R Dunedin too). Anja convincingly won the title against a very strong women's field, with US based rider Jenny Smith coming in 2nd, my fellow Nelsonian and mtb legend Brenda 'Bob' Clapp taking third and Santa Cruz rider Annika Smail (2006 series champ) following closely behind in 4th.

George Bennett takes the Junior Men Hill Climb Champs race with a very fast time of 31 mins 11 seconds. George also finished 2nd in the U19 XC race, with a very close race and George having a to fix a puncture too! With a field 24 competitive U19 XC racers, this is a fantastic result.

Jason Blair had a couple of bronze medals to take home to Christchurch, with a 3rd in the 30+ XC and HC race.

Down Hill
The Nelson course seemed to be a mixed bag for the Santa Cruz DH team. Both Jenna Makgill (Pro-Elite) and Peter Cooper (U19) seeded first in their seeding runs and both had a slower race runs finishing 5th in their respective class's.

Eddie Masters finished 8th in the very competitive and very full Under 19 field. 36 competitive entries for the U19 DH field, a very good sign for the future of DH.
Dale Cragg finished 4th in the over competitive Master 1 class. Dale is still recovering from a broken collar bone (Auckland DH series). He said the Doctor mentioned something about another month off the bike, but he's not sure what meant.
Well Done to the NZ Santa Cruz team!

Where was I? In Wanaka for Trish Wrigley's and Cullum Smith's wedding, more on that later. See you all at Roto-Vegas.
